Why are rainforests important?

Rainforests are home to 50-90% of the species on Earth. Worldwide, several hundred million forest-dwelling people live in or depend on rainforests.

Many of the world's important food crops and domestic animals have been developed from rainforest species.

Human beings have depended on rainforests for medicines and climate control for generations. their  uniqueness and divertsity of species.

What are Rainforests?

Rainforests are multi-storied, closed, broad leaved forest.  The tree canopy of varies in height and underneath the canopy is a treasure chest of life forms.

In fact, at least half of the Earth's species are found in rainforests.

About 10% of the planet is covered with Rainforest although there are many threats to rainforest areas from human development.

In Australia there is very little rainforest so it is important to conserve the areas we have and build other areas.

The Rainforest Project at Mooloolah State School is an example of what can be done with schools and communities.

Join our rainforest community to find out how you can conserve rainforests and enjoy this natural wonder regardless of where you live.
