Virtual Field Trips

Student Learning Outcomes

Through participation in a Virtual Field Trip students develop the following understandings, engage in experiences and identify issues, behaviours and concerns related to social and ethical issues.

Understandings

  • Students explain how individuals and communities use e-mail to communicate across great distances.

  • Students recognise that they have a real purpose for primary and secondary data collection and writing activities.

Students typically know about:

  • relevant terminology and concepts

  • the spatial and cultural characteristics of the fellow travelers

Students may: 

  • investigate the reliability and authenticity of information ICE-ACII4.4

  • discriminate between important and unimportant information. 

  • develop information literacy skills through using communication technologies. 

 

Experiences

  • Students use internet based technologies (e-mail, chat, web boards) to communicate responses with others outside the classroom.

  • Students use the information literacy cycle to respond to questions and information problems.

Students typically know about:

  • relevant terminology and concepts

  • the spatial and cultural characteristics of the rappers'  location

Students may: 

  • discuss issues and  responses to questions face to face with classmates and online with a wider group of students.

  • formulate and construct and write responses to discussion points.

  • actively construct understanding of issues through interaction with others. 

  • discuss and evaluate information shared by others in the classroom and online community.

  • make sense of and navigate through several forms of information including images, sounds, animation and ongoing discussion groups. 

  • develop and refine skills of composing and comprehending spoken and written English.

Social and Ethical Issues

  • Students develop respect for other peoples opinions.

  • Students develop an understanding of cultural differences.

  • Students become aware of their roles and  responsibilities in a collaborative project. 


Students typically know about:

  • the conventions of communicating online safely and effectively

  • the etiquette of communicating via e-mail

  • the need to make regular contributions.

  •  

Students may

  • develop their ability to use literacy and digital skills as an active and informed citizen.

  • take part in an online community which values each other's contributions.

  • make new friends online
