Virtual Field Trips

E-mail Conversations

E-mail conversations are best structured to provide purpose and focus to the students involved.

A series 2-3  Rap points have proven to be a useful way of structuring such events. for more information visit the Book Rap project.

Episodes might be one class- one class or involve multiple classes. If multiple classes are involved an e-mail list can be established.

Rap Point Suggestions

Rap points are a series of questions that are posed to students to assist them share information and gain insight into the culture of a remote location.

Rap points should be designed to move students from lower order thinking to more in depth consideration of the task at hand. Bloom's taxonomy is a useful tool to ensure that questions are structured in such a manner.

Other ideas

Find some web sites of your local area. (Your students could use the EDNa search engine to find these-no inappropriate sites!)  Have your students write some question on the sites to send to your partner school.

Have students record data in their local area to share and compare. Might be a survey on litter or on recreational facilities for kids in their suburb.

Conduct an interview via e-mail of students in each suburb/town about the characteristics/features of their town.
