Virtual Field Trips

Tours in Cyberspace

Introduction

A simple way to start developing a Virtual Field Trip is for students will contribute their ideas and share stories about their experiences and understandings of their local area.

Your students become the eyes and ears for those unable to make the journey. Share your field experiences as well as your pre and post field trip work.

An e-mail list will be set up for the activity, to which students will contribute their ideas and share stories about their experiences and understandings of a local or remote place. Classes in the capital cities could play host to students from interstate or country areas and provide a web tour of the city finding sites, (The EdNa search engine can be used for such a task) sharing stories and adventures.

Examples

Cyber Host Schools

  1. Brainstorm about where you would take visitors in your city.
  2. Students to look for photos and pictures of these places in their own collection which can be scanned and sent digitally if equipment permits.
  3. Search the web for sites on the city. The EdNa search engine can be used for such a task)
  4. Send an introductory e-mail to the 'visitors' e-mail list telling them about the city generally and outline the tour you intend taking them on. Eg. History, climate, favourite places, people, school life, recreation, parks
  5. Task could be divided up amongst groups of students who are in charge of that area.
